Powerful cataloging
The system consists of many and powerful cataloging aids to speed up productivity. Looking at the cataloguing it is advanced and has very flexible record structures. The CALM tree view has many additional tools available to the archivist or curator to make it easy to add and edit, renumber or make changes in the record structure. This supplied with authority control on different levels secures a consistency in the records.
Calm’s many data connectivity capabilities make it easy to exchange data in a variety of formats and for Calm to act as data harvester and server.
Built-in image viewing and management
Images can be linked to any CALM record in any database and viewed using ImageView, which handles images in most industry standard formats, including JPEG, TIFF, PNG, Windows Bitmap and GIF.
Intelligent date handling
CALM has also a sophisticated date parser allowing storage of, and searching across, a variety of date ranges, while also permitting exact matches on dates.
The date formats were based on standard professional practices in archives and museums and the exact meanings of common textual date descriptions were agreed with the CALM customers. The comprehensive parser allows the addition of new date forms which may be identified from time to time and there are currently around 50 different formats supported.
The Calm system is used in more than 350 different archives, museums and records offices in United Kingdom and Ireland as well as some customers in mainland Europe.
It is developed by Axiell in close dialogue with the customers.
