Successful meeting in the Calm Digital Records Group - 2010-07-23
A meeting of the Calm Digital Records Group took place on the 22nd July hosted by The National Archives (TNA) in Kew, London, UK and was well attended despite being in the ‘holiday season’.
The meeting was chaired by Adrian Brown of the Parliamentary Archives.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss requirements for future enhancements to CALM, based on the findings of the recent survey of Calm users concerning digital records plans and projects, the report of which emphasised the importance of the digital records group: “There is a recognised demand for guidance and technical solutions to enable proper preservation and management of digital records. Some respondents have significant expertise and experience in these areas, and there is an opportunity for the community to take advantage of this by sharing experiences and best practice “.
A number of talks were given: • Survey findings – Adrian Brown (Parliamentary Archives) • The AIMS Project - Simon Wilson (Hull University) • Cataloguing electronic records using CALM – Natalie Walters (Wellcome Library) • Understanding technology for digital preservation – Malcolm Todd (TNA) • CALM development roadmap – Nigel Pegg & Malcolm Howitt (Axiell)
Following this, individual workshops were held on: • Cataloguing and metadata • Accession and ingest • Supporting user access • Best practice and training.
