Axiell Media was founded in 2000 under the name ”Elib” by innovators at some of Sweden’s largest publishers and an online book retailer, with a shared ambition of introducing digital books in Sweden. As pioneers in services for digital books, we laid the foundation for the changed book landscape that now exists. Today we are a market-leading provider of services to all parts of the industry, and we develop and adapt services to meet tomorrow’s needs.

A natural part of the digitalisation journey

The first e-book to be sold was the book Paradiset (Liza Marklund, Piratförlaget) in 2000, through Swedish retailer Adlibris.

Initially our work was focused on helping publishers to get started with their digitalisation process, and with the help of new readers in the market, digital reading also gathered pace.

The second decade was characterised by enormous efforts by publishers and retailers to increase their digital sales, and we are pleased to have been able to help by contributing our technology and spirit of innovation to the development of new business models, integrations and technical solutions that facilitated this process.

Today we are a market-leading distributor in Sweden and Finland, and our Digital Media Platform Engine distributes more than 5 million digital books each year. We provide 1,200+ publishers, 20+ retailers and the majority of libraries (90% in Sweden, 60% in Finland) with a variety of services that help them continue to increase their sales of digital books and support the Swedish audiobook phenomenon.

Together with publishers, libraries and retailers, we continue to create innovative services that all contribute to the joy of reading on the reader’s own terms. When we became part of Axiell Group in 2015, we also changed our name to Axiell Media.
