Norman Rockwell Museum selects Axiell solution to manage its extensive art and archive collection

Chicago, United States, 23 January, 2017 – Axiell, the leading vendor globally of collections management software to archives and museums, today announces that its EMu solution has been selected by the Norman Rockwell Museum to manage the world’s largest and most significant collection of Rockwell art, including 829 original paintings and drawings. In addition to the works by Rockwell, the museum has 14,635 original works by other illustrators.

Alongside the art collection, housed in Stockbridge, Massachausetts, the Axiell collections management software will also be used to manage the Norman Rockwell Archives, a collection of over 200,000 items that includes working photographs, letters, personal calendars, fan mail and business documents.

Selected for its task management and digital asset management capabilities, Axiell’s EMu solution is a fully-featured collections management system designed to accommodate the requirements of any collecting institution. The powerful narratives also enable data to be stored, formatted and managed to allow sharing of relevant information, whether online, through interactive guides or within the database.

EMu is built on a foundation of international standards and it is currently used by more than 400 institutions worldwide.

Adam Schatz, Managing Director of Axiell ALM, said, “The Norman Rockwell Museum is a world-renowned institution and we are proud to be working with them to manage their impressive art and archives collections. EMu replaces an existing solution with a more powerful and fully-featured solution.”

Martin Mahoney, Director of Curatorial Operations – “We are excited to be transitioning to this new collections management software that will increases accessibility for both staff and the public while furthering a greater understanding of Norman Rockwell and the field of illustration.”
