Finnish library consortium has chosen to extend cooperation with Axiell for library system

Vantaa, Finland November 10 2016 – Axiell, the leading vendor to public libraries in Europe, today announces that the library consortium for Ostrobothnia has chosen to continue to use library management solution, Axiell Aurora, for the coming three years. A new consortia, with 22 different sized municipalities in the regions of South Ostrobothnia, Ostrobothnia and Central Ostrobothnia, will be formed in early December. The name of the new library consortium will be announced on December 1st. This will be one of Finland’s largest library consortias, with Seinäjoki Provincial Library as the central hub.

The libraries that are joining the new library consortium have already been using the Aurora library system developed by Axiell Finland Oy, but now the databases of libraries will be merged in early 2017. The integration process should be completed in March 2017. After the merge, library staff and the residents of the municipalities can take advantage of an extended catalogue of material across the consortium.

Mervi Heikkilä, Library Director of Seinäjoki City Library and Provincial Library, commented: “The libraries that are joining the new library consortium are familiar with Axiell Aurora and it serves our needs well. When the implementation is completed, the new library consortium customers will have access to a more extensive collection, both physical and virtual. Library staff expertise can be better utilised for the benefit of customers. Our customers will also be able to benefit from the same service across municipality boundaries, as the new library consortium will have common operating rules. ”

The new library consortium is formed around the Seinäjoki Provincial Library and is the combination of the following public libraries – Seitti, Lakia , Oiva, Krannit, YTY libraries and Ilmajoki municipal library. Many of the branches in the consortia are open and mobile libraries as well as school libraries.

Library consortium means cooperation between two or more libraries, which can span across municipal and administrative boundaries. The most common form of cooperation is a shared library system.

Axiell Aurora is a versatile library managing system which has been developed in Finland. The browser-based system provides library professionals with a flexible tool to maintain the various functions in the library. The system supports a variety of interfaces and is customisable for personalised usage needs. The Axiell Aurora library system is marked as a Key Flag product. The Key Flag Symbol (Avainlippu) can be awarded to a product manufactured or a service produced in Finland.
