Upplands-Bro chooses automated library return and sorting system from Axiell

Lund, Sweden 16 February 2016 – Axiell, the leading supplier of IT systems and services to public libraries, announces today that Upplands-Bro, a municipality in Stockholm, has selected the Smartreturn 300 Bibliotheca for its library’s return and sorting needs. The decision was made after the municipality was tasked with finding a suitable sorting solution that would expedite the process of moving library media from the point where it is returned to its rightful location within the library. The new solution makes it even easier for patrons to borrow and return items, and simplifying the returns process for the library staff.

Smartreturn 300 supports up to three entry points, allowing patrons to return items like books and DVDs through deposit slots, which will then be automatically sorted and sent to trolleys designated for the appropriate staff return station. The solution has a sorting speed of up to 1,800 items per hour and both RFID and barcode compatibility.

The sorting trolleys are stacked and loaded automatically when connected to the main unit and they can be positioned either portrait or landscape, depending on what would be most ergonomic for the different work situations at the library.

The new solution will help staff to focus on delivering more value-added services and, ultimately, creating positive experiences for everyone in the community.

Sven Totté, Managing Director Public Library at Axiell, comments: “Our extensive experience with library logistics enables the development of solutions that ensure libraries are managed in the most efficient way. The automation of key processes within libraries is a key enabler for freeing up staff time, enabling them to spend more high-value time with patrons.”
