Axiell chosen to manage cross-country collections systems

National heritage agency brings multiple cultural resource information systems into one standardised system

Toronto, Canada, 16 January 2017 – Axiell’s EMu system has been selected by Parks Canada Agency as its collections management system, combining varied and disparate cultural resource information systems into a single, standardised national system that can be accessed by the Agency’s 4,000+ employees.

The project will bring an efficient way to store and manage a vast range of data, documents and imagery, while creating an effective tool for reporting and decision making.

The EMu collections management system will combine all cultural resource information related to Parks Canada’s 46 national parks, four national marine conservation areas, and 171 national historic sites, currently housed in multiple systems within offices across Canada.

Axiell’s EMu provides Parks Canada with a single platform designed to support the management of both digital and non-digital assets, with rich functionality for program and functional areas relevant to cultural resources.

Adam Schatz, Managing Director of Axiell ALM, said, “EMu has been at the forefront of collections management for more than three decades, used by leading institutions across the world. We are excited to have Parks Canada as a customer and this is a true testament to the capabilities of EMu in both creating a single, authoritative system and bringing functionality that ideally suits specialist areas such as culture and heritage.

“EMu is an off-the-shelf product that allows for easy integration, but with the specific functionality required to manage a vast and varied cultural collection such as Parks Canada’s.”

The multi-phased project will reach completion in March 2017.
