Lund, Sweden, 4 May 2021 – Axiell, the world’s leading software and services provider for the cultural sector, announces that Hungary’s National Film Institute – Film Archive has chosen Axiell’s collections management platform, Axiell Collections, to manage their Film Archive which hosts over 100 years of Hungarian and global film culture. Axiell’s software will also facilitate public access to the Archive’s collections through an integrated online search and display system. Axiell is a leader in the sector and Hungary’s National Film Institute – Film Archive will join Axiell’s customer community which includes over 15 of the world’s film archives.
György Ráduly, Director of Hungary’s National Film Institute – Film Archive, says, “In 2019 we decided to take a step forward and change our collections management system and database to a modern system that can better serve our internal needs and make connections with other public collections’ databases. After studying all the possibilities on the market, we are glad to move forward with Axiell Collections which offers us a user friendly and robust system backed by the best customer service.”
Film is the largest contributor to the Archive, followed by an extensive collection of non-film items including photos, film posters, and documents. The Archive also offers the country’s only film-related research library. Because of their diverse collection, Hungary’s National Film Institute – Film Archive chose Axiell Collections for its ability to manage all collections types within one system in accordance with international standards including EN 15907.
Benedek Kabán, Technical and Development Manager of Hungary’s National Film Institute – Film Archive, says, “As part of an operational and technological modernization program, Axiell Collections will replace our home-built collections management system. The platform will equip us with a robust software suite that is still highly flexible for our in-house developers and curators. The powerful API also gives us full access to our data for a host of uses outside of the application.”
The Archive will also adopt two fully integrated Axiell Collections add-on modules to enhance their use of the system, public access, and data integrity. Axiell Move will be used to track collections movements and Axiell Internet Server will be used to publish collections items online.
Joel Sommerfeldt, CEO of Axiell Group, comments, “We are delighted to welcome Hungary’s National Film Institute – Film Archive to our growing film archive user community. As more film archives adopt our purpose-built platform, they have become a significant stakeholder in our software development roadmaps and user community. We have strong relationships with our film archive customers and look forward to engaging with Hungary’s National Film Institute – Film Archive and their unique perspective on the future of the discipline.”
