Art Students League of New York Chooses Axiell Collections to Manage Collections Associated with World-Renowned Contemporary Artists

The Art Students League of New York will use Axiell Collections to manage their permanent collection, archives, and historic records for students and teachers including Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Norman Rockwell, and Mark Rothko.

Toronto, Canada, 5 August 2021 – Axiell, the world’s leading software and services provider for the cultural sector, announces that the Art Students League of New York (The League) has chosen its collections management solution (CMS), Axiell Collections, to manage their historic student records and permanent collection of paintings, sculptures, works on paper, mixed media and other works by artists including Norman Rockwell, Georgia O’Keeffe, Alexander Calder, Milton Avery, and more.

The League is a small art school that was founded in 1875 by a group of artists in New York City. Those who have studied or taught at the League include Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Ai Weiwei, Helen Frankenthaler, Hans Hofmann, Robert Rauschenberg, and Mark Rothko – just to name a few.

Stephanie Cassidy, Head of Research and Archives at The League, comments, “One of many reasons we chose Axiell Collections is the impressive array of institutions throughout Europe and North America using the CMS for different kinds of collections. As a heritage institution preparing to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025 with eclectic holdings, from paintings and sculpture to student registration records, board minutes, and newspaper scrapbooks in addition to an art library, we found Axiell to be the best fit with lots of potential to customize and grow.”

Prior to choosing Axiell Collections, The League was limited by their multiple existing systems and wanted to bring all their collections data together into one database. Axiell Collections gives them the flexibility to capture and interlink diverse collections data. The platform’s relational database will open up new avenues for interpretation and research of their collection. The League’s next goal is to make their records more accessible to researchers and students.

Amanda Roy, Regional Manager of North America at Axiell, adds, “As with all our prospective customers, we remained close to The League during the evaluation and procurement process, taking the time to fully understand their needs and answer their questions in depth, specific to their unique requirements. We’ve been told that this collaborative approach positively influenced The League’s decision to partner with Axiell. We are looking forward to working with the League and continuing to provide the exceptional customer service and active user community that is associated with the Axiell name.”
