Preserving A Legacy – Into the Ray Harryhausen Archive

The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation care for the substantial collection left by legendary stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen. With an estimated total of 50,000 items, spanning from the 1930s until present day, it is one of the world’s largest animation archives, second only to the Walt Disney company.

Connor Heaney, Collections Manager,  The Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation speaks about their journey since the Foundation purchased Adlib in 2016. He speaks about how they approach cataloguing this incredible collection, and study the history of objects from Ray’s celebrated film career. The database has been used to plan exhibitions, detail restorations and uncover information about Ray Harryhausen’s unique working practices, counting down to mark his centenary in 2020.
