Support for Mimsy XG Ends 31 December 2026

Support for Axiell’s Mimsy XG collections management system will come to an end on 31st December 2026. The next step for Mimsy users is to upgrade to Axiell Collections, Axiell’s modern web-based collections management system, where you will join a community of 800 museums, archives and collections institutions. We encourage you to get in touch here to discuss your upgrade.

Here's What Mimsy End of Support Means for You

When does support for Mimsy end?

Support for Mimsy will come to an end on 31st December 2026. We encourage you to get in touch with us as soon as possible to discuss your upgrade. Contact your account manager, the sales team or get in touch here.

If your support contract runs beyond this date, we will continue to support you until the end of your contract to the end of your support cycle. For example, if your support cycle runs from April – March, support for Mimsy will be available until March 2027.

However, we would strongly encourage you to consider your upgrade path before then. If you wish to upgrade before your current contract ends, we are happy to discuss changing your existing contract to reflect the product change, if you can do this. In any case, we would recommend beginning the upgrade process as soon as possible.

What does end of support mean for me?

From 31st December 2026, Mimsy will no longer be supported or maintained by Axiell. After this date, there will be no new releases or bug fixes for Mimsy.

To continue working with a supported product, you will need to upgrade to Axiell Collections. Continuing unsupported means that, in the event an issue arises with your Mimsy system or data, we will not be able to help.

For over two decades, Mimsy has been a trusted tool for collections managers, supported on its journey by a dedicated team at Axiell and by a passionate community of users.

However, technology has changed rapidly since those early days and the needs of collections managers have evolved alongside. At Axiell we know there is a desire for intuitive, accessible, web-based systems, that enable you to work and collaborate with your team anytime and anywhere.

With Axiell Collections now providing an exciting, future-ready solution for Mimsy users, we know that now is the right time to take the next step.

Ending support is part of any product lifecycle. While this may require you to review your plans, rest assured that our dedicated team will be here to support you at every step – from requesting your upgrade, to helping you prepare your data, through to implementation, training and then supporting you for the lifetime of Axiell Collections.

What should I do now?

What if my support contract ends after the deadline?

If your support contract runs beyond the deadline, we will continue to provide support until the end of your contract, or to the end of your support cycle. For example, if your support cycle runs from April – March, support for Mimsy will be available until March 2027.

If you wish to upgrade before your current contract ends, we are happy to update your existing contract to reflect the product change, if you can do this. In any case, we recommend beginning the upgrade process as soon as you can by getting in touch with Axiell.

 

How long does the upgrade take?

This depends on whether you use a standard or customised Mimsy application. Please get in touch with us, and we will work with you to analyse your system, understand your needs and create a upgrade plan that works for you.

 

How does Axiell Collections differ from Mimsy XG?

You can achieve everything you need to achieve from Mimsy in Axiell Collections. However, it is a different system, and some processes will work in a slightly different way.

Does the upgrade have a cost?

Our promise to Mimsy customers is that your user license will be transferred on a like-for-like basis to Axiell Collections at no additional license cost. Note this does not apply automatically to customers who have a Mimsy Site License, so you should speak to our sales team or your account manager to discuss this further. You can of course choose to increase your user license if you wish, and we can provide costs for that.

If you proceed with our standard data migration script, where your data is mapped by our staff into the default field locations, then there will be no charge for the data migration. Please note that a customized migration will likely have some cost associated with it. Also, any changes to your system requirements or support requirements may also result in changes to your annual charges.

There will be some costs associated with initial setup and installation, and you will also want to consider investing in some Axiell Collections training.

Mobius users will be migrated to the Axiell Internet Server public access module by default (visit the demonstration site here). The licence for AIS is provided free of charge but there will be a cost associated with any branding and styling you ask us to apply (you are of course free to do any branding and styling yourselves).

MWeb customers can carry on using this for a short time (to be defined) using a modified export mechanism. There may be costs associated with this but will depend on requirements.

There will also be costs if we need to maintain any 3rd party integrations that you have currently with Mimsy. This could include pushing data to a website or discovery search portal, exposing data to harvesting services, or integrating with a Digital Asset Management system.

We also strongly recommend that you take advantage of Axiell’s hosting service wherever possible. This takes away all the responsibility and cost of managing your collections management system and ensures the security of your data. There are many benefits to you in letting Axiell take responsibility for your collections in a more cost-effective way.

Does moving to Axiell Collections remove the needs for Oracle costs?

Yes. Axiell Collections utilizes SQL Server as a backend database. If you choose an Axiell hosted option, then the SQL costs are incorporated into the hosting charge. If you cannot host with Axiell, then you will need to purchase a SQL licence or use your institution’s existing license, if it has one.

 

How will third party integrations and APIs be impacted, such as Knowledge Integration/CIIM?

3rd party integrations may be impacted, as Axiell Collections uses a different API. It is important that you let us know as soon as you can about any integrations you have currently with Mimsy, if these integrations are to be maintained after upgrade. This will help us to identify any required changes and specify work that will need to take place.

 

What happens with our Mobius or MWeb web interfaces?

Mobius users will be moved to Axiell Internet Server (you can visit the demonstration site here), while MWeb will continue to be supported for the near term utilizing a modified export mechanism.

 

What happens if I do nothing?

After the end of support deadline, your Mimsy system will be out of support. This means that, in the event an issue arises with your Mimsy system or data, we will not be able to help.

We cannot guarantee that the Mimsy desktop application will continue working forever. Issues can occur, for example with Windows version upgrades, that we will not be able to resolve.

 

Will my software still work after 31st December 2026?

We are only announcing the end of support. There is no immediate reason why the Mimsy desktop application should stop running. You will be able to use Mimsy and access the data for as long as the application continues to operate in your technical infrastructure. However, you will be missing out on all the benefits of working with a modern, web-based solution that is regularly updated, and the security that comes with support.

We cannot guarantee that the Mimsy desktop application will continue working forever. Issues can occur, for example with Windows version upgrades, that we will not be able to resolve.

 

We also use other Axiell collections management software, such as Calm, EMu, Adlib – how does this news affect our other systems?

This announcement relates only to Mimsy. All other systems are unaffected unless otherwise communicated.

There are options for migrating from one or more systems into Axiell Collections. You can also migrate data into an existing Axiell Collections system. You can still choose to run other systems separately. Get in touch with us to discuss which option is best for you.
