Axiell Launches ‘SelfLib’: Self-Issue Software for a More Sustainable Library Service

Developed in collaboration with customers, Axiell SelfLib provides libraries with a simple, flexible solution for item issues and returns

Nottingham, June 18 2018: Axiell, the leading vendor globally of collections software for libraries, archives and museums today announces the launch of its brand new self-issue solution for libraries, Axiell SelfLib. SelfLib is a simple self-issue web-app that runs on any tablet, providing library patrons with simple check-in / check-out functionality from anywhere in the library. Being both flexible and scalable, SelfLib helps Library Managers deliver the library service more efficiently.

Axiell SelfLib has been developed in close collaboration with customers. From concept to launch, customers have been at the heart of the journey and, as such, the solution reflects the needs of libraries to provide a more sustainable approach to library management.

The software is simple and intuitive, meaning that anyone can use it, even first-time users will know what to do. Additionally, setting up the software takes just minutes, saving staff valuable time. And because updates happen automatically, libraries can rest assured they will always have the latest version.

Now, self-issue points can be placed anywhere in the library near a power outlet and with a wireless internet connection. In the event that requirements change such that Library Managers require less service points, SelfLib’s flexible and scalable payment model ensures that library’s will only pay for what they need and can scale up and down quickly and easily.  Even the hardware, a standard tablet device, can be re-purposed for another use, for example, to support digital training and engagement strategies.

The solution, which has been trialled by customers in the UK, was first introduced at the recent Axiell European User Conference and is now available in the UK.

Ann Melaerts, Vice President/Business Area Director Public Library at Axiell, comments:

“The ongoing challenges faced by Library Managers mean that there is a need for more sustainable and scalable solutions. Working closely with customers has helped us better understand these challenges and work quickly to provide a solution. From first discussions with customers at our regional Axiell Gang meeting in late autumn 2017, through a customer workshop to define the scope of the solution and then to launch at the User Conference in May. This represents the way in which Axiell is now working, with the customer central to the process of creating solutions to real problems.”
