Axiell launches solution for web based collections management

Manchester, November 16 2016 – Axiell, the leading vendor globally of collections management software to archives, libraries and museums, today announces Axiell Collections, a new application which provides web-based access to their collections management systems. This new solution has been developed to ensure that museums and archives globally can more rapidly enrich their collections information with existing internal resources and new crowd-sourcing techniques, to move beyond technology barriers and bring cultural and natural heritage to life. Axiell Collections enables museums and archives to access their collections data anytime, anywhere, through a web browser on tablets, laptops and Macs.

Institutions around the world are striving to increase their capacity to address digitization backlogs, and validate and enhance records to be shared online for public access. Research conducted by Axiell in 2015 shows that 87% of institutions are developing digitization and digital engagement strategies. Axiell Collections is designed to meet those market demands. With this modern solution, professionals and volunteers, collaborators, researchers, and partners can access and enrich the collection through the web.

Museums and archives are increasingly collaborating nationally and globally. Axiell Collections supports institutions and national initiatives that want to transform the way that they work together. A single instance of Axiell Collections can be used to effectively and centrally manage the collections of multiple museums and archives, allowing each to share data as desired. This provides individual institutions with access to a significantly greater pool of collections data for research, analysis, loans and learning.

“Axiell Collections is ideal for museums and archives who want to enrich their collection and enable collaborators to
speed up their digitization and collections data efforts. By removing the reliance on installed hardware, institutions can open the door to contributors from anywhere in the world to help them achieve their collections goals,” says Adam Schatz, Managing Director of Axiell ALM.

Axiell Collections is intuitive and easy to use, enabling more staff and volunteers to contribute, while reducing training and infrastructure costs. It also enhances the user experience by giving individual users the power to tailor their workspace to suit their needs without sacrificing data integrity and information security.

“We believe that museums, archive and library collections play an invaluable role in protecting the world’s cultural and natural heritage, and we are developing Axiell Collections to support the industry in its goals to capture and preserve knowledge on these precious collections for future generations and enable greater access to these collections online. Axiell Collections is designed to facilitate that and opens up your collections management system,” Adam Schatz continues.

Axiell Collections is now available for use in conjunction with Axiell’s Adlib collections management system. The technology is currently in development for use with Axiell’s other collections management solutions.
