Cleveland Museum of Natural History Selects Axiell to Advance Digital Collections Management

Implementation of Axiell EMu, Sapphire, and GO to streamline workflows and support the Museum’s digital transformation.

Toronto, Ontario — 18 December 2025 — Axiell, a global leader in software for the cultural sector, has been selected by the Cleveland Museum of Natural History as its collections management software partner. The Museum will implement Axiell EMu, the internationally acclaimed platform for managing multidisciplinary collections, alongside Axiell Sapphire and Axiell GO to enhance workflows and improve accessibility.

The adoption of Axiell’s technology underscores the Museum’s commitment to digital innovation and long-term stewardship of its scientific collections, positioning the organization as a leader in natural history research, education, and public engagement.

“Natural history collections are critical to understanding and preserving the world’s biodiversity,” said Ryan Scapellato, Vice President of North America, Axiell. “We’re proud to support the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s mission through technology that enables research, discovery, and collaboration with the international natural history community.”

EMu offers advanced tools for managing complex biological collections, supported by Axiell’s ISO 27001-certified practices. Integrated with Sapphire and GO, CMNH’s teams will gain flexible workflows, custom data entry forms, and mobile editing capabilities, all designed to enhance efficiency and ensure the accurate stewardship of its vast holdings.

As CMNH transitions its anthropological, biological, and earth sciences collections to a new facility, these systems will play a central role in supporting biodiversity, ecology, evolutionary biology, and conservation research. Over the long term, EMu and Axiell’s continued partnership will enable the Museum to preserve, research, and interpret our shared natural history for generations to come.

“Adopting EMu as our collections management system will ensure that our collections data is secure, well organized, and accessible. We want to be able to share our collection with a global audience and EMu will allow us to do that.”

This collaboration strengthens Axiell’s role as a trusted technology partner to cultural institutions worldwide and highlights EMu’s enduring reputation as the leading solution for natural history collections management.
