Toronto, Canada — 6 June 2025 — Axiell, a global leader in software for the cultural sector, has been selected by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) to modernize its Visual Art Collection system using Axiell Collections, a secure, web-based platform designed to meet the evolving needs of cultural institutions.
GAC will transition from Axiell’s legacy Mimsy XG system to Axiell Collections as part of a broader initiative to retire aging infrastructure. The new platform offers enhanced capabilities, ISO-certified security, and sustainable architecture aligned with long-term program goals.
Axiell Collections will empower GAC to meet critical technical, operational, and compliance requirements. This renewed partnership represents a significant milestone in Axiell’s ongoing relationship with the Government of Canada. “We’re proud to support Canada’s commitment to preserving and sharing its cultural heritage globally,” says Ryan Scapellato, VP of North America for Axiell.
The Visual Art Collection program oversees 6,500 works of art in all media, exhibited in Canadian embassies and missions in more than 100 cities around the world. GAC selected Axiell Collections for its sustainability, technical fit, and ability to support GAC’s compliance with Treasury Board Policy for the management of Moveable Heritage Assets and the Financial Management Policy frameworks.
In addition to implementing Axiell Collections, the agreement includes data migration services, expert strategy and planning, reporting enhancements, and access to Axiell’s on-demand customer support resources. A self-hosted deployment model ensures GAC retains full control over its infrastructure while benefiting from the scalability and flexibility of modern software architecture.
This partnership reinforces Axiell’s position as a trusted provider of collections management technology for governments, museums, archives, and libraries worldwide.
