Keynote - Ray Harryhausen, Titan of Cinema: Overcoming the Pandemic to stage a Blockbuster Exhibition Watch Watch

2020 saw the centenary year of legendary filmmaker Ray Harryhausen. To mark Ray’s 100th birthday, the Ray and Diana Harryhausen partnered with The National Galleries of Scotland to present ‘Titan of Cinema’- the largest exhibition of the stop-motion artist’s work to date. Having worked hard upon the exhibition’s design over the course of three years, this long-awaited blockbuster event was abruptly halted by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, just a few short weeks before the originally planned opening date.
Hear how the Foundation and NGS teamed up to overcome obstacles and ensure that Ray Harryhausen’s work could be enjoyed by a worldwide audience through this centenary exhibition and the release of an official biography by daughter Vanessa Harryhausen. Collections Manager Connor Heaney will share how Axiell systems were used to prepare the exhibition, and how the events of 2020 encouraged the Foundation to upgrade from Adlib to Axiell Collections.

Presenters:

Connor Heaney, Collections Manager, The Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation
Rosie Forrest, Head of Collection Information & Digital Asset Management, National Galleries of Scotland

Great Possibilities for a small local museum Watch Watch

To support our conservator, some volunteers learned to work with Adlib at the Streekmuseum Stevensweert / Ohé en Laak. Then, following the publishing of new rules for museums in The Netherlands, some questions were raised about usability and digital safety. This led to our decision to upgrade to Axiell Collections in the first months of 2022. Besides new insights on our complex museum collection, it gave us inspiration for the professionalization of registration, presentation and research possibilities.

Data Modelling and Online Presentation of Multi-Part Collections Watch Watch

The Science Museum is currently working on the first phase of a project to transform its collections data. The aim is not only to increase the number of records and associated media online, but also to improve the user experience, particularly with difficult-to-present multi-part objects and photography collections. A presentation will be given followed by a roundtable discussion to explore how other organisations have approached this challenge to come to a better understanding how to model and present complex multi-part collections online.

Unlocking Our Sound Heritage Watch Watch

‘Building Connections for a Sustainable Future’ [theme for #AxiellEU22], could be the strap-line for Unlocking Our Sound Heritage at Manx National Heritage. The project, begun in early 2020 and delivered this year, has involved multiple connections (including across the Irish Sea) to sustain a nation’s sound archive into the future.
