Burlöv Libraries chooses Axiell’s cloud-based library services platform, Quria, to make library workflows more efficient and to improve user experience for both library staff and users. The library service will also utilise Axiell’s Arena discovery tool, as part of a digital-first plan to adapt operations and physical library spaces to better support and engage users.
Burlöv Libraries consists of a main library in Arlöv and a branch library in Åkarp in southern Sweden. The libraries wanted a modern, flexible library management system that can adapt to their processes, rather than having to change their processes to fit the solution. The choice to move from Mikromarc to Quria was obvious after seeing the solution in action.
“In 2018, we had the privilege of going on a study visit to a library in Oslo. There we saw libraries that, in different ways, test the limits of what a library is and what a library can be. They had created flexible, user-driven spaces, rooms adapted to specific target groups, and even spaces with a living-room feel. We were inspired by this and came to understand that the library services platform is an integral part of the whole experience. We wanted a modern system that would facilitate our internal processes so that we could focus on the library’s visitors and borrowers,” says Helena Götesdotter, Library Manager of the Burlöv Libraries.
Quria is a platform where all of the library’s resources and workflows can be managed together. This includes physical collections, digital resources, library activities, events, e-media and all communication channels. With Quria, the library can build a future-proof collection that supports linked data, Libris XL, and offers both library staff and visitors the benefits of RDA and FRBR. A catalogue structured according to RDA and FRBR gives the user a clear overview of all the formats or variations of a book or resource, that are available in the collection.
“Burlöv is a municipality that works intensely on digitisation and digital inclusion and has high demands in the solutions they work with. Therefore, it is with pride and joy that we welcome them as the first Mikromarc library to join our expanding Quria community,” says Joachim Läckberg, Axiell’s Public Library Manager in Sweden.
With Quria, Burlöv Libraries get a flexible, accessible and user-friendly system that streamlines daily work routines, reduces the number of systems that staff need access to, and provides a complete overview of what is happening at the library. Visitors will be able to search for media and events on their own and handle many library matters themselves. The system simplifies the staff’s internal work and frees up time for initiatives like visitor outreach and reading promotion. It is cloud-based and works behind the scenes so that the library does not need to be closed for updates to the solution.
“With a new and flexible solution, we can free up more time to focus on becoming a more accessible place for citizens, where people feel that they can access library resources more autonomously. Quria will be a key tool for us to lower the barriers of engagement for citizens,” Helena Götesdotter concludes.
