Axiell helps the world’s oldest railway museum and the world’s second largest transport company improve access and drive efficiency by centralising their huge collections

Potsdam, July 10, 2018 – Axiell, the leading vendor of collections management software to archives, libraries and museums, today announces that it has been selected by the DB Museum and the historical collection of Deutsche Bahn AG, to manage their extensive collections. The collections, containing items that vary from meeting transcripts to classic trains, will now be manageable from a central point. This simplifies workflows for staff and makes the collection more accessible for researchers.

The challenge of this project lay in bringing multiple large collections, across multiple sites, together into a central solution. Axiell’s Adlib Collections Management System is highly scalable and allows for multiple collections to be managed from a single place. This means museum and archive users can easily catalogue content, manage metadata and create links between files, streamlining workflows throughout both institutions.

The DB Museum was founded in 1882 and is the oldest railway museum in the world. Across 6,800 m², it presents countless exhibits from the history of rail in Germany. The collection includes posters and advertising signs as well as furniture and original vehicles. The museum is located in Nuremberg, but also has sites in Koblenz and Halle.

Christina Block, scientific advisor, DB Museum, comments on the collaboration: “We were looking for a new, contemporary solution. Axiell Adlib was chosen because it enables us to centrally manage the large number of different exhibits and media. This not only simplifies our daily work and makes processes more efficient, but means we can also make the information more easily available for research purposes.”
