Axiell’s collections management and collections online platforms will integrate seamlessly with the institution’s current digital asset management system to build a fully connected MuseTech stack.
Toronto, Canada, 1 November 2021 – Axiell, the world’s leading software and services provider for the cultural sector, announces that The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) has chosen Axiell’s collections management platform (CMS), Axiell Collections, and collections online product, Arena, to centralize their collections data and boost efficiency across the institution. These platforms will be integrated with THNOC’s digital asset management system (DAMS), Piction.
In January 2021, Axiell announced a partnership with Piction and the two companies now collaborate on a shared production roadmap for the benefit of companies like THNOC that seek to connect, streamline and enrich data across platforms in their institution. The integration with Piction is now part of Axiell’s standard CMS application.
“As soon as we secured funding for a new system, we started looking for a product and partner that would help us do more with our collection and facilitate interdepartmental work,” says Lindsey Barnes, Database Manager at The Historic New Orleans Collection. “Axiell offers world class software, a full integration with our current DAMS (Piction) and a vibrant user community – all of which contributed to our selection of Axiell as our new CMS vendor.”
THNOC is a museum, research center and publisher dedicated to preserving the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South. The collection contains everything from curatorial items, manuscripts, library materials, audio, video, oral histories and artwork. These items offer insight into the rich and varied cultures of the Gulf South from the early 1500s through to today. THNOC maintains three campuses consisting of multiple historic buildings in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans, providing extensive educational programming, exhibitions and interactive galleries to local and international visitors.
In addition, THNOC has chosen Axiell’s collections online product, Arena, to give the public user-friendly access to in-depth information about stand-alone and linked collections items. Because of its integration with the Axiell Collections CMS, Arena provides the infrastructure for cultural institutions to control access to their collections and associated data. Arena will empower researchers and the general public to engage more deeply with THNOC’s collections based on their needs.
Amanda Roy, North America Regional Manager of Axiell, comments, “We’re glad to see that THNOC will take advantage of our partnership with Piction. This partnership has allowed us to build a robust integration between our Axiell Collections and Piction DAMS. By weaving data together across platforms, the full integration greatly enhances the collections content and metadata available to groups across the institution, irrespective of their department. With the added layer of Arena, these three systems will centralize and enrich data in THNOC’s CMS, streamline reporting and provide the best possible workflows across departments. We’re excited to support them in this big transition through a phased implementation approach that offers the flexibility THNOC desires on a timeline that works for their institution.”
