Axiell’s Collection Management Platform Used to Launch New Online Collection for Ottawa Art Gallery

Toronto, Canada, 16 January 2024 – Axiell, the world’s leading software and services provider for the cultural sector, deploys its integrated collections management and collections online platform, Axiell Collections, for Ottawa Art Gallery. Axiell Collections provides the Gallery with a scalable Axiell-hosted database that is certified by the internationally recognized ISO security framework. The platform includes a seamlessly integrated online collection tool that empowers the Gallery in their mission to offer inclusive access to its collections.

Ottawa Art Gallery houses over 3,200 artworks from their permanent collection from artists in the Ottawa-Gatineau region and the Firestone Collection of Canadian Art.  The Gallery offers a free public space for its community to engage in reflection, connection, and respectful dialogue. By using Axiell Collections, Ottawa Art Gallery gets access to a market leading solution developed to the latest industry standards. With Axiell handling the technical evolution of its collections management system (CMS), the Gallery can focus on its mission-driven work with the collections. By extending collections access to members of the public who are unable to visit the physical location, and offering multi-lingual collections information, the Gallery champions inclusivity.

“Axiell Collections provides us with reliable and efficient infrastructure to manage our collections while we focus on extending access to the gallery’s collections for all types of audiences, physically and virtually.” Says Jennifer Gilliland, Senior Collections and Building Manager for Ottawa Art Gallery, and manager for the implementation of the software. “We were fortunate to receive a grant to fund the project, and now we have a streamlined way to push data from the Axiell Collections CMS to the online collection. As we continue improving translations, our collection will become even more accessible. We are grateful that Canadian Heritage – Museum Assistance Program has helped to fund these innovations.”

Maria Wasing, Axiell’s CEO, expresses her excitement about this collaboration, stating, “At Axiell, we are committed to empowering cultural institutions with the tools they need to thrive in the digital age. The launch of our Axiell Collections platform for Ottawa Art Gallery exemplifies our dedication to providing cutting-edge solutions that enhance accessibility, engagement, and the overall impact of cultural organizations in our communities.”
