Library of Congress chooses Axiell’s collections management system for audiovisual materials

The Library will leverage Axiell Collections to help preserve and manage over 6,000,000 objects in its audiovisual collections

Toronto, Canada, August 10  2020 – Axiell, the leading supplier of software to the cultural sector, today announces that its suite of tools has been selected by the Library of Congress to support collections management for their unique and sizeable collection of motion pictures, television, radio and recorded sound. The Library will leverage Axiell Collections for collections management, Axiell Flow for workflow solutions to ensure efficiency in daily operations and Axiell Arena to provide access to in-depth information about the collections.

In addition to incorporating the major collections held at the Packard Campus for Audio Visual Conservation, this project will encompass the holdings of the American Folklife Center and the Veterans History Project. The Axiell solution will support the Library in its mission to document the history and further the creativity of the American people, to record and contribute to the advancement of civilization and knowledge throughout the world, and to acquire, organize, provide access to, maintain, secure, and preserve these collections.

Axiell Collections provides Library of Congress staff the tools they need to efficiently manage analog and digital audiovisual materials in one system. This will help ensure consistency across collections, make workflows more effective, and support the Library’s strategy to become more data-driven. In conjunction with Axiell Arena, it also provides new opportunities for linking the Library’s collections with those of other collecting and research institutions, potentially expanding access to the authoritative source of American history held by the Library of Congress.

Joel Sommerfeldt, President & CEO of Axiell Group, comments:

“The Library of Congress is an unparalleled world resource and Axiell’s largest customer so far. We’re extremely proud to be selected as a solutions provider. Preserving and providing access to collections at world leading institutions as the Library of Congress, where the collection also continues to grow and expand, helps create communities that are conscious, informed and culturally rich, to the benefit of us all.”
