Lund, Sweden, 6 August 2024 – Axiell, the global leader in software and services for the cultural sector, proudly announces that its library management solutions have been selected following an international tender conducted by the Technical Chamber of Greece. The project, which includes the upgrade of the National Library and other public libraries across Greece, will be implemented by NOVA Telecommunications & Media IT integrator in collaboration with Axiell’s Greek distributor, ELiDOC. This initiative will bring a significant number of Greek libraries into Axiell’s community of 13,000 customers. Axiell is a trusted partner for institutions ranging from single-branch libraries to some of the world’s largest cultural organizations.
“We’re delighted that our solutions will support libraries across Greece in serving their patrons and sharing Greece’s immeasurably important cultural output with audiences in Greece and around the world.” Says Maria Wasing, Axiell President and CEO. She added:
“At Axiell, we consider ourselves incredibly privileged to be trusted by a host of national libraries, archives and museums. These institutions choose to partner with Axiell because they know they’re getting a secure and reliable partner that they can work alongside for the long-term. We’ve been working with libraries of all sizes for over 30 years and our innovation is driven by improving the work they do every day.”
Axiell’s cloud-based V-smart Library Management System will gather, update, and provide bibliographic records for and from all participating libraries. The Iguana platform will serve as the Portal Interface, helping members of the public discover and reserve titles. While V-insight will function as the Business Intelligence System, collecting data and generating statistics from all libraries, helping the consortium of libraries work in a more data-driven way.
The National Library of Greece will adopt V-smart for its Digital Collections. Iguana will again serve as the Portal Interface, and digital records and files will be managed through V-smart’s Digital Asset Management module. During the project, 400,000 pages of rare material will be digitized, and approximately 50,000 records will be documented. Additionally, another 80,000 records will be catalogued for five Libraries that currently lack an LMS, resulting in a total of 130,000 records in either Unimarc or Dublin Core format.
The project will enhance the security and safety of library materials and books, with the installation of RFID equipment in all Public Libraries. This will involve setting up staff workstations, single or dual aisle gates, self-check stations with smart bins, and approximately 1,600,000 RFID tags across 45 libraries in Greece.
