Grampian Transport Museum

MOBILE GUIDE | INTERACTIVITY FEATURES | FULL APP DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT

Axiell’s UK team collaborated with the Grampian Transport Museum on a digital engagement project featuring a mobile guide tour and scavenger hunt. The mobile guide was built using Axiell’s CultureConnect platform and features images, video, and a variety of interactive modules to encourage deeper engagement (and fun!) for visitors of all ages. An interactive map helps visitors easily navigate the physical space spanning exhibits both indoors and outdoors.

Houston Museum of Natural Science

STRATEGY WORKSHOPS | ADVANCED INTERACTIVES | COLLECTIONS INTEGRATION

Houston Museum of Natural Science engaged us to reimagine the collection display, interpretation, and visitor experience of its renovated John P. McGovern Hall of the Americas. With guiding data from a series of strategy workshops, we created 10 digital interactives that feature multimedia-rich stories about the people, culture, and objects featured in the Hall. They also offer a “collections discovery” feature powered by an integration between CultureConnect and EMu, the museum’s Collections Management System.

Indiana Historical Society

ADVANCED INTERACTIVE | ONLINE EXHIBITION | INTERACTIVE MAP

The Indiana Historical Society (IHS), founded in 1830, collects and preserves Indiana’s unique stories; brings Hoosiers together in understanding and sharing the past; and inspires a future grounded in the state’s uniting values and principles. Following a museum closure at the peak of COVID-19, the Indiana Historical Society chose to bring their in-gallery immersive storytelling online. The call to action was to reimagine their in-gallery exhibits for a digital environment and make it available to the broadest audience possible.

Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute Museum

Since launching their first digital interpretation app with CultureConnect in 2018, the Munson-Williams team has quickly become one of the most active organizations on the platform. They’ve launched a mobile guide, scavenger hunt, in-gallery kiosk program, and been a partner in the development of image recognition technology. Through technology, the Museum team is able to serve the campus community, the larger Utica community, and broader national audiences.

Fairfield Museum and History Center is a museum and library with a vision to use history to strengthen community and to shape its future. When COVID-19 forced the museum to close its doors, the team had to rethink approaches to serving the public and their educational programs. Rather than replicate the in-person experience, the museum team decided to create a long-term distance learning strategy that could withstand the pandemic and continue to thrive beyond the crisis.

Transform a brochure map or in-gallery signage map into an interactive component available to all visitors engaging with your mobile guide, scavenger hunt, web experiences, or in-gallery touchscreens. Three client examples showcasing different approaches are featured: The Orlando Museum of Art and James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art feature way-finding maps in their Mobile Guides. The Lowe Museum of Art has an interactive map designed for both large touchscreen display as web as mobile web access.

Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History

ADVANCED INTERACTIVES | MOBILE GUIDE | VOTING MODULE

With a mission to open minds and change lives through the exploration and celebration of African American history and culture, the Wright Museum sought to expand its reach to national audiences through multi-channel digital experiences.

In conjunction with their Fall 2020 temporary exhibition, Voting Matters, the Wright team launched two digital experiences: an in-gallery interactive that would later live on as an education-focused online exhibit and a mobile guide for rotating exhibits and permanant collection tours.

Lowe Art Museum – Kress Collection

ONLINE EXHIBIT | INTERACTIVE MODULES | WEB FORM

In the Fall of 2020, the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami launched Hidden Stories – New Voices as an online exhibition exploring 18 works of art in their Samuel H. Kress Collection of European Renaissance and Baroque art. Most importantly, it allows non-specialists to share their thoughts about the highlighted works; particularly relating to the contemporary lived experience.

Originally designed as an in-gallery interactive, however; with the onset of the COVID-19, the Lowe’s team re-imagined the experience as an online exhibition and serving broader audiences.

U.S. House of Representatives

MOBILE GUIDE | 3D CONTENT | DIGITAL STRATEGY

The Office of Art and Archives for the U.S. House of Representatives launched How the House Works, a mobile guide for the many diverse audiences who work at and visit the Capitol. The mobile guide complements a new permanent exhibition inside the Cannon House Office Building and tells a broader story of how Congress works, serves as a training tool for congressional staffers, and shares historical anecdotes and rich, interactive media.

Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

ENTERPRISE LICENSE | ONLINE EXHIBITS | COVID RESPONSE

The MFA, Houston had created in-gallery interactives and a mobile guide as an Enterprise License customer, but then in 2020, as a result of COVID-19, the interpretation team refocused their efforts toward online engagement experiences. MFAH pivoted quickly launching online exhibits and expanding access to the CultureConnect platform to nearly a half-dozen departments within the museum for their own rapid response.

Lowe Art Museum & Sketchfab

3D CONTENT | INTERGREATION | ADVANCED INTERACTIVE

The Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami sought to showcase 3D scans from their antiquities collection and explore the 3D documentation process performed by faculty and students in the Department of Art & Art History. The scans were published on Sketchfab (the YouTube for 3D and VR models), which is fully integrated into the CultureConnect platform and featured in their app, Animating Antiquities!

MIT Museum

LARGE SCREEN DISPLAY | HIGH RESOLUTION SCALING | ADVANCED INTERACTIVES

The Polaroid Project exhibition at the MIT Museum explores the technology (created just down the street!) that enabled the development of Polaroid. To enhance the exhibition under a fast-approaching deadline, the museum launched an 83″ touchscreen interactive highlighting the work of 20 local artists working with Polaroid. Elegant, simple design to shine the light on the photographs.

ACCESSIBILITY | MOBILE GUIDE | AUDIO TRANSLATION

The Bell Museum, Minnesota’s official natural history museum and planetarium, celebrated a grand reopening in a new building on the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul campus. Explore the museum’s mobile guide which provides multi-language content for Spanish, Hmong, and Somali-speaking visitors as well as accessible tours for guests with low vision or no vision.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO is one of the leading art museums in the country with an active digital team comprised of interpreters, graphic designers and technical staff. This combination of in-house resources and ambition made the Nelson-Atkins an ideal candidate for the Enterprise License. This project included custom feature development, advanced interactives, and the Enterprise License.

The Marine Mammal Center’s decision to implement a digital program onsite for visitors was twofold: First, educate the visitor around MMC’s scientific and medical work. We first partnered with the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) in 2014 to begin building a digital interpretation program. Within one year, NOMA transformed from having no digital program to becoming a multi-award-winning trendsetter in the region. Included prototype testing, user testing and evaluation, a mobile guide and digital labels.

MOBILE GUIDE | ESSENTIALS PACKAGE

The Alexandria Museum of Art collaborated with CultureConnect to create and launch a mobile guide to celebrate the institution’s 40th anniversary. Included a mobile guide and the essentials package. The AMoA first created a mobile guide featuring three multimedia tours and has subsequently created two new tours on their own.
